THE VERY BEGINNING....
It is with great pride that I begin by stating that I am an AIR FORCE "BRAT"! Being an Air Force child we traveled! I lived in Texas and many other states. Even now "home" is where I happen to be at any given moment. And my "art studio" is the place where I am painting.
THE BEGINNING OF THE ENDURING PASSION FOR PAINTING AND OIL PAINTS......
I LOVE TO PAINT! And painting with oil paint is my passion. I tend to see the world through the eyes of a romantic and an impressionist. My inspiration is a combination of reality (places I've traveled to) and imagination.
I recall and treasure the life changing first brush stroke I made with oil paint over 17 years ago as a fledgling artist. Landscapes and seascapes always were and continue to be my primary subject matter because of my unending fascination and enjoyment of the shapes and colors of nature. While studying my paintings you will notice soft gentle touches, bold dashes with the palette knife, and a variety of surface textures. I am not shy or fearful of colors or painting to set a mood! Whether painting the frigidness of a snow scene, the vastness of the southwestern canyons or the fun of a vase of daisies I remain captivated and challenged to excel to the next level of artistic achievement.
THE PROFESSIONAL SIDE OF MAKING PAINTINGS....
Having discussed the expressive and artistic side of oil painting now may I also state that I am a professional artist dedicated to oil painting. I am devoted to the pursuit of my artistic development. Using Windsor and Newton and other professional grade oil paints upon linen, cotton canvas and other supports. I am a member of Oil Painters of America and American Impressionist Society.
SPECIAL MEMORIES IN MY ART LIFE
I have studied and painted throughout the United States, England, France, Mexico and Spain. During one art workshop with GALE BENNETT (1939-2008) we painted in MONET'S GARDEN in Giverny, France. I loved sitting on the ground, gazing into his pond, listening to the creek tumbling over the rocks with the haunting sound of the cuckoo bird calling out. One afternoon I was the only person there except for the unseen gardener! I had another great experience of studying under CHARLES GRUPPE as he instructed us, plein aire, in the beautiful and historical areas around the Costa del Sol in Spain. I thank Evelyn Benham, Robert Burridge, Urania Christy Tarbet, and the many, many other instructors who have shared their art spirit with me through their instruction and guidance throughout the years. I am grateful to all of you - indebted to all of you - determined for the honor of all of you!
My paintings are exhibited in the Santa Fe West Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico ,and available through the Seven Sisters Gallery in Morro Bay, California, Harmony Glassworks in Harmony, California and NOW in my very own Gallery here in historic FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY and are in numerous private collections in the United States and France.
Please browse through my web site, explore the paintings, ask any questions. Keep in mind that I will accept requests for commissions.
